In the first week of June, the weather is hot and the days are longer. With exams looming in the distance, it’s easy for anyone to feel overwhelmed during this time of year. However, this is not a typical year and this is not a typical Art Exhibition! “Dimension”, a 100% student-directed cross-curricular Mat and Art exhibition is refreshing, new, and art-standing (outstanding)!

If you ask them, these artists will tell you they are Math-Whizzes. However, I call them art-math-gicians (Art / Math / Magicians) because they have come together to create magical artwork based on their love for Math! On a fundamental level, Art in its purest form is an act of creative expression. These beautiful pieces of work certainly qualify as such. Maybe they don’t consider themselves “Artists”, but the work speaks for itself: they are at least Art-rithmeticians (Art / Arithmetician). It goes to show that you don’t have to call yourself an “Artist” to be an artist—you just need to start by loving what you do and be willing to share it with the world. The exhibition is displayed in the 7th-floor hallway of the Aspiration Building until the end of the term.

Dimension is the number of independent parameters in mathematics, and it is also the "perspective" from which people observe, think, and express. In general cognition, mathematics may represent rationality, rigor, and logic; art, on the other hand, symbolizes sensibility, randomness, and romance. But in fact, the two always develop together under natural laws and historical evolution. What we hope to convey to everyone is that in many dimensions, mathematics and art are complementary and interconnected. Welcome all of you to join us and start on this journey with math and art! See you again at the Red Window Fair at I4 on June, 14th where some of the artworks will appear in the form of peripherals.
