The 2024 BASE Series – Haidian Kaiwen High School Girls Volleyball Classic Invitational (KAIWEN CLASSIC TOURNAMENT - HS GIRLS VOLLEYBALL) concluded last Saturday, October 19, at Kaiwen School. Under the leadership of coach Samuel Wong, our Phoenix Girls Volleyball team emerged as champions. 

This year’s event featured eight strong teams from the international divisions of various Beijing schools. Our Phoenix team was placed in Group B, alongside SMIC Private School, Huijia Private School, and Harrow Beijing. The group stage followed a two-set format, with points awarded based on results (1-1 for a draw, 2-0 for a win, and 0-2 for no points). The top two teams from each group advanced to the semifinals. Phoenix finished second in their group after tying 1-1 with all opponents but securing enough points to move forward. They then faced the top team from Group A, host Kaiwen School, which had achieved a clean sweep in their group by defeating Keystone Academy, AIDI School, and Daystar Academy.

In the semifinals, Phoenix players initially struggled against Kaiwen's powerful serves, falling behind in the early stages. However, they remained composed, steadily closing the gap point by point. Through consistent serving, solid passing, and diversified attacks, Phoenix secured the win, advancing to the final to face Group B's top team, Huijia Private School. The final match was closely contested, with both teams taking one set each. In the decisive set, Phoenix relied on aggressive serving to disrupt Huijia’s passing, while coach Samuel Wong made strategic adjustments, bolstering their defense with double blocks. The team maintained a calm and methodical approach, eventually overcoming Huijia to claim the championship.

Congratulations to the entire Phoenix Girls Volleyball team for their outstanding achievement! A special thanks to Coach Samuel Wong for his unwavering dedication and professional guidance over the past few years, which has transformed Phoenix from an unknown team into one of the fastest-growing and most respected teams in the BASE league. And great thanks to coach William Wu for supporting our team all day!
