Date: October 25 , 2024 02:54:31 View ()

On October 17th, BNDS G11 Student Union of International Department transformed the Aspiration Building into a lively tribute to Colombia by hosting the 2nd Colombia Culture Day. This event left attendees with a lasting impression of the country's rich traditions, diverse song and dance forms, and colorful spirit.

The event opened with a captivating performance of Cumbia, one of Colombia’s most beloved traditional dances. Dressed in flowing white costumes, the teachers and students moved with elegance and precision, embodying the infectious rhythm of the music. The lively movements reflected the passion and warmth that Colombia is famous for, setting the stage for the evening ahead.

Following the arousing start, a national promotional video took viewers on a breathtaking journey through Colombia’s natural wonders. From the soaring Andes Mountains to the picturesque Caribbean coastline, the video painted a vivid picture of a land brimming with beauty. The blend of cultures—from indigenous roots to European influences—was highlighted, showcasing the country’s unique diversity.

The theme of the event, “Gems of Colombia,” was elegantly captured through a specially crafted logo designed by Alicia, a G11 student whose inspiration came from the majestic condor from Colombia's national emblem and the delicate beauty of the Cattleya orchid, the national flower. Radiating symbolism, the logo is shaped like a laurel crown adorned with colors from the Colombian flag, and reflects the nation’s biodiversity and its rich cultural heritage.

The festivities continued with a variety of engaging activities. A performance of the hit song Bicicleta ('Bicycle') kicked off the fun, followed by interactive Salsa dance lessons that got students on their feet. There was even a crash course in Spanish, allowing participants to immerse themselves further in Colombian culture. A highlight of the event was a heartfelt speech from Mr. Vivas, a guest from Colombia, who shared personal anecdotes and stories from his homeland.

As a thoughtful gesture, guests were presented with creative souvenirs to commemorate the event. The beautifully crafted metal badges and raw stone pendants served as tokens of gratitude, symbolizing the lasting connection between cultures forged on this special day.

No cultural celebration is complete without food, and Colombia's culinary delights did not disappoint. Attendees savored crispy, flavorful Empanada beef pies and the hearty Bandeja Paisa, a traditional dish brimming with ingredients that reflected Colombia’s rural charm. The authentic flavors transported everyone straight to the vibrant streets of Bogotá.

The Colombia Culture Day ended in high spirits, filled with laughter and newfound knowledge. This celebration of Colombia not only provided a deeper understanding of its cultural treasures but also reinforced the importance of global exchange. Thanks to the dedication of the organizing team, the G11 Student Union of the International Department, the event was a roaring success, laying the groundwork for further exploration of diverse world cultures and their role in shaping a shared, prosperous future.
